Chatterbooks
The award winning scheme Chatterbooks encourages children aged between four and twelve to visit libraries with their families, read adventurously and become confident about talking about books. Started eight years ago by The Reading Agency with Orange it was the first ever nationally co-ordinated reading group project for children. Today over 7500 children are part of over 400 Chatterbooks reading groups run in 145 different library services.
Every child joining a Chatterbooks group gets a pack containing a reading diary, stickers, a Chatterbooks pen and ‘post it note’ style review notes. These packs have just been given a fresh look with new designs by illustrator Andy Ward, who designed the original Chatterbooks characters and materials in 2001.
